It is an honour to be a part of your healing journey and self-care practice.
Greetings, I'm Michael Luong, a registered acupuncturist and practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, proudly serving in beautiful British Columbia. My journey in the realm of healthcare spans over two decades, and since 2006, I've been dedicated to the practice of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
My academic journey includes a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine. However, my path to healing was profoundly influenced by my upbringing in Vancouver, particularly in the vibrant Chinatown community.
As a child of new immigrants, I was exposed to the world of Chinese herbal medicinals and traditional healing techniques from a young age. While the bitter herbal remedies didn't particularly appeal to my taste buds at the time, I found solace in my mother's gentle gua-sha technique, which provided relief from my childhood ailments. Additionally, I witnessed the transformative power of acupuncture and cupping in my mother's life, as she sought relief from the strains of her demanding job as a seamstress. I also had the privilege of living with my maternal grandparents, who shared their wisdom in the realm of food therapy, consistently preparing nourishing bone soups for our family.
Despite this rich cultural upbringing, I initially leaned towards Westernization. My fascination with the sciences and mathematics led to a Bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences at UBC in 1999. This background in pharmacy, as it turns out, became a cornerstone of my career, enabling me to deeply comprehend Western medicine, appreciate its functions, and thoughtfully recognize its limitations.
In 2000, I ventured to Seattle for work, where I managed a pharmacy specializing in natural supplements. This experience rekindled my passion for natural remedies, prompting me to delve into the world of natural medicine, encompassing traditions such as Ayurveda and Indigenous herbal practices. By 2006, it became abundantly clear that my path and calling lay in acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
Over the past 18 years, I have embarked on a relentless pursuit of knowledge, undergoing extensive training and practice with masters in the field from around the world, including China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and the United States. My approach to healing is rooted in the integration of diverse methodologies, marrying my expertise in Western medicine with a profound understanding of Eastern medicine.
In September 2020, I made a heartfelt decision to return to Vancouver, a move motivated by the desire to be closer to my family. It was this very move that laid the foundation for the birth of this clinic on Broadway. In my precious moments of respite, I find tranquility in practicing tai chi and qi gong, while cherishing quality time with my family. Additionally, I derive immense fulfillment from sharing the wisdom of Chinese medicine through teaching. Assisting me at the front desk are Joanna, Raha and John, all of whom are passionate students of acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
My journey is driven by a profound commitment to healing and a deep-rooted passion for improving the lives of those I serve.

Our Philosophy Begins With This…
Your body possesses incredible healing potential and profound intelligence. When you're unwell and experiencing discomfort, your symptoms are, in fact, messages from your body, signaling a need for assistance and indicating an imbalance. Our objective is to assist you in identifying these imbalances, guiding you in making essential adjustments to rectify the underlying issues, and effectively applying various methodologies to unlock your body's innate healing potential, steering it toward a transformative healing process.
Our Guiding Principles
We focus on results and aim to concentrate our treatments to ensure your health goals are met. Chinese medicine is not "slow" nor "weak". Given the right treatment strategy, Chinese medicine can produce dramatic results in a relatively short amount of time, often correcting imbalances that elude drugs and surgery. How fast you see results depends on how strong you are to begin with, how severe your disease is, and how much self-care you are willing to put in. With your active participation, we are here to support your wellness and health goals.
We always seek out the root cause of your illness and not simply treat the branch symptoms. Our focus is to always balance and optimize your internal organs so that you have the capacity to fully heal from the inside out. We know the organs are intricately connected, and we are able to see and treat the whole You, not just your symptoms.
We aim to provide you with clarity. Once you begin to have a deeper understanding of how your body works and what it needs to heal, you can begin to make necessary changes (diet, lifestyle, etc) to support your own healing.
We treat you with respect and non-judgement. We honour and support your healthcare decisions, and never criticize the decisions you make regarding your medical care. Whether you choose a 100% natural route or choose to combine our services with conventional medicine, our goal remains the same.
Transparency and integrity. We always strive to maintain complete transparency and integrity in our dealings with patients, referring clinics, suppliers, and all others with whom we interact. We will only recommend what is necessary - never more, never less.
